Glamping pods have seen a huge rise in popularity, both as a great choice for a holiday, but also as a means to offer holiday accommodation for landowners. They’re quick and easy to install and can be comfortably used all year round.

We’re often asked for more information about glamping pods, so here’s our quick guide to what they’re all about.

What are glamping pods?

Glamping pods are simple wooden structures that offer a more comfortable alternative to a traditional tent, while still allowing the occupant to feel they are getting closer to nature. They’re a popular investment for campsites, allowing them to offer a boutique camping experience. They can also be sited in smaller numbers alongside traditional holiday properties. Increasingly, farmers are installing glamping pods as a way to diversify their business. Holiday parks are now offering glamping pods alongside other kinds of holiday accommodation

The glamping pods we manufacture at Garden Room Sanctuary blend in unobtrusively with the natural environment while offering excellent durability and longevity. It makes them a low-impact choice for holidays.

They allow you to experience all the fun aspects of camping, without the hassle of the bad bits. There’s no need to lug all that heavy equipment around, no struggling to put up a tent at the end of a long journey, and much better protection against the weather should things outside turn nasty.

Glamping has soared in popularity over recent years, with increased numbers of people taking staycation breaks. They look inviting, and when inside people are often surprised by just how comfortable they are. They’re a great way to experience the great outdoors and to have a truly memorable holiday.

Do glamping pods have beds?

Yes! Glamping pods are usually large enough to contain beds. It means they’re considerably more comfortable than tents. At Garden Room Sanctuary we

manufacture two different styles of glamping pod, The Whernside and The Pen-Y-Gent Glamping Pods. Both these styles are available in two different sizes.

Standard size measures 4m x 2.8m and can sleep 2-4 people. The larger deluxe pod can sleep 4-6 people.

The type and size of bed you choose to place in your glamping pod is down to you. Some people go for conventional beds, others choose other options such as futons. At some glamping sites the emphasis is on luxury, while others keep things simple.

Do glamping pods have heating?

Every glamping pod we provide comes complete with an electrical panel heater, which creates more than enough heat for the pod for most of the year.

Should you want to make things extra cosy, it’s possible to install a small wood burner into a glamping pod. The burner must have 500mm clearance in all directions of any combustible materials, which would include wood and furnishing. A simple flue system will need to be installed.

Do glamping pods need planning permission?

This depends on the number of pods you want on your site, where they’re located and how you intend to use them. If you install a single glamping pod in your garden as a way of creating extra space or a spare bedroom to the house, it’s exempt from requiring planning permission. However, they should not block access from neighbouring properties, nor light.

If you’re creating a holiday/glamping business using glamping pods you will usually require planning permission.
