Sustainability is the responsibility of everyone. We can all make an impact on climate change and other environmental issues. It’s simply the case of making the right choices. And that’s one of the reasons why we’ve put so much thought into the design of our garden rooms and glamping pods. And the materials we use to create them.

Doing Our Bit to Be Greener

Timber frames

There are a range of ways to construct a garden room. But for ours, we chose timber frames. And there are a number of reasons for this. It’s partly because timber frames work really well. They’re tried and trusted, delivering the strength and versatility to create the kind of structures that we are proud to make. But we also chose timber because is it environmentally friendly. When properly sourced, it’s fully renewable. And when it is no longer needed it can either be recycled, turned into carbon neutral biomass fuel, or even be left to naturally degrade.

Responsible sourcing

All of the timber we use at Garden Room Sanctuary is sourced from responsibly managed forests. This ensures that there is a continuous supply of lumber – without deforestation or environmental degradation. Our suppliers also invest in the conservation of the areas in which they work.

Recycling and responsible waste disposal

One of the ways that we reduce waste and keep our prices down is by reusing waste wood. Where we can, we use leftover off-cuts and timber to make other products, such as support for decking. Where the timber is too small to use or damaged, we use it to heat our workshop. With other materials, such as metal, cardboard, and plastic, if they can’t be reused they are always recycled. We put in a lot of effort to ensure that we send very little to landfill.

Minimal emissions

Of course, part of our business involves time on the road. We have to move materials and our construction teams around the country, to wherever our customers need them to be. And that means the use of vehicles. To try to reduce our emissions as much as possible, we run all of our vehicles on bio-diesel. And they are restricted to running at speeds no greater than 68 miles per hour.

Insulation

Once you have your garden room, the way you use it is down to you. But we do make it a little easier to use them sustainably by ensuring that all Garden Room Sanctuary garden rooms and glamping pods are fully insulated. This not only makes them suitable for use all year round. It also helps to reduce the amount of heating and cooling you’ll need to keep them functional whenever you need them. Good insulation can reduce your need to heat or cool your property by half. Not only saving emissions and fuel consumption, but also saving you money.

Sustainable practices in the building industry aren’t just the responsible thing to do. They lead to incredibly high quality results. With our structures, you don’t just have a temporary addition to your garden. You have a garden room that will last for years. Every one of our buildings comes with a 10 year structural guarantee. But that’s really just the start. Giving you an extra room to use throughout the year in whatever way you choose – office, studio, games room, or second income – our garden rooms make a versatile and eco-friendly addition to any home.
